Strengthening Roots Between Us
WHAT WE DO
Roots & Routes is building a central web-based hub for education that brings people together, which we call a Pluriversity. A Pluriversity brings together important ancestral cultural sciences that do not need reinterpretation into dominant frameworks to be valid. They already are!
The Roots & Routes Pluriversity facilitates individuals around the planet to learn directly from people with cultures that differ from their own, especially Indigenous and ancestral peoples. The web and on-the-ground programs allow us to enhance the ability of people to interconnect across diverse cultural contexts.
Roots & Routes’ online and in-person programs build bridges. We open spaces for Indigenous and ancestral peoples to lead the way in stewarding life-sustaining human societies. Through people from many cultural worldviews and practices teaching one another about their specific traditions of taking care of the Earth, we can transform ourselves, and expand hope-in-action possibilities. We demonstrate the following to the world:
Together with our partners, Roots & Routes IC’s works to responsibly steward a flourishing living world. The Pluriversity makes this possible through emphasizing why many cultural approaches to better taking care of the Earth and one another are vital.
In a time of ecological crises, when the world so badly needs social change, the R&R Pluriversity provides a two-sided benefit:
Interconnecting our partners’ on-the-ground initiatives in one space, so that they simultaneously can teach their own and learn from one another’s cultural knowledges and practices.
Allowing people outside of these communities to directly access the people who hold land-based cultural knowledges and to learn from them.
The time is now! It is more critical than ever to overcome a lack of curiosity around other sources of knowledge that can be embraced to create flourishing living world. We believe Roots & Routes Pluriversity as an alternative educational platform, can provide the space for intercultural, collaborative, and action-based educational exchange network that our planet needs. R&R Pluriversity teaches Indigenous values and methodologies. These span out into four branches:
Re-storying what it means to be human and our relations between one another.
Restoring relations with the community of beings within the watersheds we call home and Living Well.
Revindicating Indigenous, Human, and Nature’s Rights and Repairing historical wrongdoings.
Reciprocating with one another through intercultural exchange experiences learning to “think with the heart”.
