Audiovisual Workshop

Hope & Struggle in the Ecuadorian Chocó Rainforest : Audiovisual Workshop and documentary co-produced by Roots and Routes and Selvas Producciones and directed by Eriberto Gualinga

Though Chocó Rainforest is a critical ecological backbone in Ecuador, it is often overlooked since the Amazonian Rainforest is close by. This audiovisual workshop is a way to help marginalized Indigenous communities in this region become more visible by sharing their narrative on how palm oil production contaminates water sources and cripples food sovereignty in their communities. As they gain more experience in creating digital media through this program, they are able to build a case to help sway the Ecuadorian government which will help dismantle the recent pretensive sustainability ruling that will worsen palm oil production.

Indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian youth are being taught by Gualinga how to use cameras to document injustices which has helped create a final documentary to share their narrative
